Karen Land Hansen's work comprises a number of media: video installation,
sculpture, water colour animation and drawing. Underlying as a key theme in all
the work is the relationship between the fictional and the factual, and the work
engages the contradictions and overlappings between those two realms. The
sculptural works combine physical/sculptural objects with scenographic effects;
light and video projection. The videos are often rooted in documentary footage
and the sculptural elements relate to the already existing in our current urban or
technological environment - or to historical objects. Many of these works focus
on non-visible structures, or "hidden" worlds, which are brought to view in these
installations. These can operate literally, metaphorically or historically.
